International Webinar organized by GDC Darhal

Jammu, Aug 21: An International Webinar on “UN Sustainable Development Goals and COVID-19”was organized by Govt. Degree College Darhal, J&K in collaboration with EAST, Tamil Nadu and Attitude Change International, Darhal Malkan (Rajouri), in which Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Deptt. Govt. of J&K, Mr. Parvez Talat Rohella was the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address Mr. Talat Parvez Rohella talked about Sustainable Development Goals. He said that quality education is one of these goals and Deptt. of Higher Education has already taken so many initiatives for better academic growth of higher educational institutions in J&K. Online Google classes during tough times of COVID-19 pandemic lock down has provided better option to the students to continue their studies. He told that Swayam courses, skill enhancement courses, skill workshops, up-gradation of Labs, Libraries, sports infrastructure, preparation of Virtual labs through IIT Mumbai, Manu darpan, Aatm Nirbhar Bharat, introduction of research in colleges are the recent initiatives taken by the Department of Higher Education for quality education. He also interacted with the resource persons and invited them to provide better options if available in their countries for providing quality education to the students of J&K. Prof. Yaseen Ahmed Shah Director Colleges, Dr. Ravender Kumar Ticku, Nodal Principal Jammu Division and Prof. Yasmeen Ashai Nodal Principal Kashmir Division were also present in the International Webinar.
The International Webinar started with a welcome address by Principal of Govt. Degree College Darhal Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia. He said that the faculty and students of the college are making all out efforts in taking this institution to new heights. Organizing a National Webinar on Mathematics, another National Webinar on Urdu and now an International Webinar on UN sustainable development goals and COVID-19 has acted as a morale booster for a college which is just one year old. He thanked Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Mr. Talat Parvez Rohella for his continuous support and encouragement to make GDC Darhal a better place for teaching and learning.
Dr. Herbert B.Rosana, Full Professor of Peace and Security Studies, Bicol University, Philipines presented a key note address. He deliberated on “Kind of world we need now”. Dr. Mohammad Tarikul Islam Associate Professor Govt. and Politics, Jahangir Nagar University Bangladesh who is also a visiting scholar Oxford University talked about sustainable development goals and COVID-19. Another resource person Dr. Daleleer Kour Randawar Associate Professor Faculty of Law University Technologi MARA, Malaysia discussed “New Norms after COVID-19”. Dr. Arulmurugan from Pondicherry University, Karaikal Campus, India talked about “Implications in Political Life”.
The proceedings of the Webinar were conducted by Dr. Ashaq Raza President Attitude Change International Darhal Malkan and Dr. Paramasivan Chairman EAST, Tamil Nadu. Dr. Ashaq told that about 350 participants from various parts of the country and many participants from other countries participated in the International Webinar. Principals of various colleges of J&K, research scholars, faculty members and students were part of this Webinar. Members of Organizing Committee Dr. Ahsan, Dr. Imtiaz and Dr. Ather Raina worked with full dedication in making this Webinar a grand success.
