Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 21: Senior BJP leader and former MLA Bishnah Ashwani Sharma called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here today.
He had a positive discussion with the LG and was assured of addressing the issues concerning people of the union territory in general and border residents in particular.
During the 15-minute-meet, Ashwani Sharma welcomed LG Manoj Sinha in Jammu and Kashmir and said that people of this union territory have high hopes from him for the betterment and development.
During the meeting, Ashwani Sharma urged LG to address the issues of border fencing, compensation of which is yet to be paid to the farmers. "I urged Honourable LG to give attention towards border people who are the second line of defence and have suffered a lot due to shelling and firing from across the border. These farmers have given their prime land for installation of fence to protect the country and people but they are yet to be paid their due," Sharma said.
He sought attention of LG on irrigation problem of border people who are dependent on Ranbir canal and other sources of water.
"As the desilting of canal is not done properly, it creates water crisis situation for border people.
It is need of the honour to provide a long lasting solution to irrigation problem of border people so that they get water at right time for farming as it is their main source of livelihood," he discussed it with LG.
The former MLA Bishnah also talked about power sector and huge funds spent on the sector but it is not visible on the ground.
Sharma thanked the Government of India for taking several welfare measures for poor and downtrodden people of the society who had suffered a lot due to Article 370 and Article 35-A. "since the GoI abrogated Article 35A it was brought a relief for Gorkha and Valmiki people who are now being issued domicile certificate for which they had been waiting for last 74 years. Also daughters of Jammu and Kashmir, who were married outside and had lost the property rights, are now equal citizens like others and they and their children can earn property rights," he added.
