5 militants’ associates linked to ISJK arrested in Bandipora

BARAMULLA, Aug 22: One unidentified militant has been killed today in an encounter with security forces in Checki Saloosa village of Kreeri area, while since Aug 17; six top militants of LeT have been killed in north Kashmir.
A top army official, Niresh Mishra while talking to newsmen said that, on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Saloosa area, cordon and search operation was launched by a joint team of army, CRPF, SoG and Police.
“Within half an area of CASO, contact was established with militants, and in the fire fight one militant was killed”, said an army official.
He said that, army conducted door to door searches, and we have sanitized the whole area, and the encounter is over as of now.
AK-47 rifle, five magazines and some rounds were recovered from the encounter site, more detailed investigations will be carried out related to this encounter, adding the identity of the slain militant has not been ascertained yet, the official said.
Sources said that the operation was laid by forces after receiving inputs about movement of militants in the orchards.
However, unconfirmed reports said that a top commander of LeT was killed in an encounter at Saloosa. He has been identified as Anees Alias Chota Sultan from Pakistan. Sultan was active since 2018 and was operating in Sopore, Zangeer and Bandipore areas.
It is pertinent to mention here that this was the second encounter in the Kreeri belt since August 17, where 3 top militants of LeT outfit including LeT chief of north Kashmir were killed. In that encounter, 5 SFs were also killed.
While on August 20, two militants including commander of LeT outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Ganapora Handwara.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said that, on a credible input, Bandipora Police has arrested five militants associated with the terror outfit ISJK. Incriminating material including Matrix Sheets, ISJK Flags and ammunition has been recovered from their possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that arrested militant associates are linked to proscribed terror outfit ISJK.
Police statement said that these associates were also involved in motivating and radicalizing the local youth to join the proscribed terror outfit. Besides they were also making flags of ISJK terror outfit in Chittibandy Aragam area of Bandipora and further supplying it to their associates in Srinagar.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 30/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Aragam and further investigation has been initiated, the statement added.
