After resignations of senior leaders in Ladakh, Cong likely to face massive revolt in Jammu also

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 22: After facing humiliation in UT of Ladakh by ignoring wishes and aspirations of the residents of Leh, Congress is going to face a similar situation in J&K because party leadership is pursuing only the Kashmir centric policies at the cost of desires of the residents of Jammu. Instead of striking a balance between two regions, Congress leadership in J&K is all out to pursue Kashmir centric agenda by overlooking Jammu’s aspirations. Today Pradesh Congress Committee leader joined with other Kashmir centric parties which unanimously resolved to fight for restoration of the “special status” of J&K as it existed pre-August 5, 2019, saying the measures taken were “spitefully shortsighted” and “grossly unconstitutional”.
The parties reiterated that they are bound, wholly, by the contents of the ''Gupkar Declaration'', a resolution issued after an all-party meeting on August 4, 2019 at the Gupkar residence of NC president Farooq Abdullah.
Important to mention here that all Jammu based leaders of the Congress have repeatedly announced in party meetings that there was no reason to raise the demand of restoring Article 370 and 35-A. Jammu based party leaders have demanded restoration of statehood but not these two articles. The Kashmir based leaders of the party are not ready to accept this idea and they have decided to go with NC and other parties in demanding restoration of the pre-August 5, 2019 situation in J&K. Already most of the senior Congress leaders in Leh have resigned from the party in protest against party leader Asgar Karbalai’s decision to observe August 5 as “black day”.
The cracks surfaced after the party’s vice-president T. Samphel and General Secretary Rigzin Spalbar announced their resignation from their posts to protest against Karbalie’s move.
They have written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi against the shocking statement of Karbalai but no action was taken by the high command against Karbalai.
