Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 22: Dharmarth Trust today celebrated Ganeshotsav (Ganesh Chaturthi) with immense fervor and gaiety in the Shri Raghunath ji Temple, although the enthusiasm was missing this year in lines with a government directive in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on public movement.
The installation of the deity was performed by Ranvijay Singh, Trustee J&K Dharmarth Trust in presence of Ritu Singh, wife of MK Ajatshatru Singh, Trustee, as per the rituals, marking the commencement of 10-day Ganesh Festival. However, the festival this year is being celebrated in a much more restricted way amidst the global pandemic situation. The social distancing norms will prevent people from celebrating the festival in the congregation.
Ranvijay Singh greeted the people of the State on Ganesh Chaturthi which marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and prayed that Lord Ganesha bless all to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
“May Ganpati ji help us all to overcome COVID-19 pandemic and bless us with a happy and healthy life,” he said, adding that celebration of such festivals bring people together and cement the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony. He hoped that this auspicious occasion will usher Jammu and Kashmir in peace.
Stressing the need to make the religious events a great attraction for the people, Singh asked the officials of the Trust to work out impressive programmes within the available resources to ensure maximum public participation. He said that the stress should be laid on connecting the young generation with the rich cultural and traditional values of Hindu religion. He asserted that the Dharmarth Trust is a more than two-century old institution established by the erstwhile Maharaja of the State of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Gulab Singh for the upkeep and preservation of temples and other shrines in the erstwhile J&K State. “The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, marks the birth of Lord Ganesh. It begins on the fourth day (chaturthi) of the month of Bhadrapada, the sixth month of the Hindu calendar. It concludes after 10 days on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, when the idol is submerged in the nearest body of water. Lord Ganesh is considered an embodiment of wisdom and widely revered as the remover of obstacles,” a Head Priest of Raghunath ji Temple said.
Dr Sat Pal, Secretary, Varinder Singh Jamwal, Additional Secretary of the Trust and staff members also participated in the festival.
