SRINAGAR, Aug 30: An academician in the Higher Education department these days looking after the affairs of Government Degree College (GDC) Pampore as in-charge Principal has developed a novel idea of making a comeback as Principal in a city college. The academician in question served as in-charge Principal of Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), popularly known as B Ed College at Srinagar. Her elevation as in-charge Principal of IASE was controversial since she was not qualified to serve as in-charge principal as there was no list of in-charge principals made public by Higher Education department.
Sources told Early Times that the academician couple of weeks back chose to write an article in a English daily from Srinagar about the National Education Policy-2020. She also chose the platform to heap praises on the bureaucrat who is at the helm of the Higher Education department.
“The writing of article by academician was not a normal thing, but there was a motive behind the same. This was done as an effort to achieve her objective of serving in her college of choice where from she was transferred early this year to serve as in-charge Principal at GDC Pampore,” said sources.
Sources said that in the article the academician referred to bullet-points of NEP-2020 which have otherwise been widely discussed among the academic circles, including Jammu & Kashmir. The highlights of the NEP2020 are known to both the teachers and students all across India and there was no need for further publicity.
“In January this year the academician had to settle as a teacher (Associate Professor) as a full-time Principal was sent by Higher Education department to serve as the Principal of IASE. She was not happy about a full-time Principal joining the college and she started creating mess which included throwing tantrums and not sharing the details of college record with the new Principal,” said sources.
Sources said the Principal had to literally start from the scratch as she had no access to the previous record. The academician did not even share the copy of the newly introduced B Ed/M Ed integrated course syllabi with the new Principal who had to assemble the syllabi page by page through different sources, said sources.
“The academician repeatedly made visits to Civil Secretariat to plead with authorities that she should be retained as Principal of IASE despite the fact that she was not qualified to serve as in-charge principal and that the authorities had sent a PSC-qualified principal to the college. She was promoted to serve as in-charge Principal and was subsequently asked to serve as in-charge Principal GDC Pampore,” said sources.
Sources said that the academician is nursing and pursuing her ambition of coming back to IASE as principal and thus published the article on NEP-2020 to use it as a means to praise the bureaucrat at the helm of affairs with the hope that she might achieve her objective this way.
