On September 7, 1906, India was witness to a unique happening – the opening of a bank promoted by Parsis, Hindus, Muslims and Jew, all Indian national – a truly secular bank. BOI was founded in 1906 as the first bank during the British Raj that catered to the people of India rather than the colonial administration. Bank is celebrating its 115th Foundation day.
