JU VC releases Dr Vivek, Rouf Bhat’s book on contemporary tourism

JAMMU, Sept 5: Professor Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu released a book titled “Changing Dimensions of Contemporary Tourism” at his office chamber.Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor congratulated the authors of the book and lauded their efforts for coming out with a latest book on the tourism sector with special reference to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir despite gigantic challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. Professor Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), Professor Neetu Andotra, Dean Business Studies and Registrar, University of Jammu, Professor Hardeep Chahal, Head, Department of Commerce and Professor Rahul Gupta, Director HRDC also attended the book release function.
The book covering various aspects of the tourism industry and challenges confronting it amid Corona pandemic has been authored by Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning/Rural Development, Dr Vivek Sharma and Research Scholar, Department of Commerce, Dada Ab Rouf Bhat.
Giving a brief reference of the book, Dr Vivek Sharma said the present book is a combination of optimistic, abundant, and persistent suggestions to see a new outlook towards tourism as it includes significant contributions addressing contemporary issues in tourism which includes both theoretical as well as practical approaches.
“This book also discusses various issues and challenges being confronted by the stakeholders for the promotion of tourism in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said. Dr Sharma said tourism being the fastest growing industry contributes remarkably to the global economy through employment generation, increased Foreign Exchange Earnings and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which significantly contributes towards enhanced standard of living and poverty alleviation. “However, gigantic challenges include COVID-19, inadequate tourism education, limited training and awareness, environment protection, inadequate funds and infrastructural support, limited community participation, socio- political and socio economic challenges,” he added. Senior academicians of the University also congratulated authors for their book and hoped they would come up with more such work in future.
