EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sep 6: Exhibiting apathetic approach in execution of its project, the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department despite spending lakhs on digging bore well for setting up pumping station at village Rajpura of block Marh of district Jammu, left the project midway nearly two years ago leaving the residents high and dry.
The residents alleged that although they are living in the twenty-first century, their area, which is just 25 kms from Jammu city, has still been deprived of PHE water supply line. They alleged that after several representations to the concerned department, local leaders for laying down supply pipelines in their which comprises 250 families, the department had started work but abandoned at initial stage.
They further said that the entire village has been facing scarcity of water facility, which is totally dependent on few hand pumps due to which the residents had to face huge difficulty in storing water for daily use.
“Most of the families which are living in this village, belong to displaced persons of Chhamb Sector of 1971 war, who had been staying here since then but it has been more than 50 years, they are still inaccessible of potable water supply from the department,” they alleged.
After many struggle by the residents, the Ground Water Division of PHE Department had started work of setting up pumping station in village nearly two years ago wherein boring of well was done but suddenly department left the work midway which is still incomplete, they alleged further adding that the work of laying down pipelines to connecting each with tap water, could not be commenced by the department due to reasons best known to department.
They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to intervene into the matter so that residents of village Rajpura Camp might get supply at their doorsteps.
