EARLY TIMES REPORT
SUNDERBANI, Sept 11: The transporters operating their services in this tehsil of Rajouri district are openly violating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) imposed in view of COVID-19 and the enforcing agency is acting as a mute spectator.
Early Times has learnt from sources that these transporters are booking their vehicles to the full capacity and thus violate the SOPs given out in this regard. These transporters are giving a damn to the government directive of occupying 50 percent of seats while leaving rest of seats so as to ensure social distancing in their vehicles.
"All the public transport vehicles like buses, mini-buses or cabs book all the seats and as such no SOP is followed. These vehicle owners over charge the people and at the end of the day it is the common man who suffers," said sources.
Sources said that the public transport vehicles operating from Sunderbani to Bamla, Hathal-Devak and Makol openly violate the rules and regulations that have come up in the form of SOPs. They said that insurance coverage in majority of these vehicles has exhausted and they are running without the insurance cover.
Sources said the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) has challaned many of the vehicle owners, but the concerned traffic police officials are not taking any action in this regard. When contacted IGP Traffic Jammu said that he would look into the issue adding that action would be taken against errant drivers. He said that drivers would not be allowed to drive without proper documents.
