Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 11: The much awaited dream project of border residents will soon get wings as Union Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and Union MoS for Youth Services and Sports Kiren Rijiju will lay e-Foundation stone of Arun Jaitley Memorial Sports Complex at Hiranagar in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Kumar Sinha and his Advisor Farooq Khan, In-charge Youth Services and Sports, will also attend the e-Foundation ceremony.
Dr Singh is sitting Member Parliament from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Constituency.
The sports complex will have features like synthetic athletic track, skating rink, synthetic turf football ground, synthetic hockey field, tuck shop, boxing rink, multi-purpose hall, cricket ground, swimming pool, illumination of stadium, pavillion with all basic facilities.
The sports stadium of International repute will be dedicated to the former union minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley in bordering Hiranagar town of Kathua district.
Hiranagar, a small township in Jammu and Kashmir, will be on India’s national map, after the completion of state-of-the-art Multiple Youth & Sports Complex, named after Mr Arun Jaitley.
Jaitley, who passed away on August 24 last year, has close connect with Hiranagar as it is a native village of his in-laws.
“Jaitley had a special connection with Jammu and Kashmir especially with Hiranagar being his in-laws place,’’ said Dr Jitendra Singh.
Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of Jaitely, is the daughter of one of the tall leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, Girdhari Lal Dogra.
Dogra was a senior Congress leader and a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
‘’The sports activities will get push once the stadium is completed and it will also open avenues for youth of bordering village besides chasing their dreams in the field of sports and games,” said Dr Singh.
The stadium will come up on allotted site of 200 kanals of land marked in Hiranagar.
‘’The government had selected 200 kanals of land as per requirement, which is close to the Dussehra ground,’’ said an official.
