Early Times Report

SUNDERBANI, Oct 8: A worker of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) holding the position of Naib Sarpanch in a Panchayat in this tehsil of Rajouri district is minting money by collecting the sum from the poor people who get the funds for constructing their houses.
Sources told Early Times that residents of a backward village in the Panchayat are very poor and they in fact live below the Below Poverty Line (BPL). Despite this fact these people are forced to pay bribe to the Naib Sarpanch as and when they receive the amount for constructing the house under a centrally sponsored scheme.
A video has gone viral on the social media in which a poor person is seen narrating that the Naib Sarpanch has demanded Rs. 3,000 from him as bribe for receiving the amount of Rs. 48,000.
In the video yet another person has also said that he too was forced to pay Rs. 3,000 as commission or bribe to the Naib Sarpanch.
“The poor people had contacted the local Panchayat with the request that they should be covered under the scheme of housing for poor. Following this the Panchayat told them they would be given Rs. 48,000 for the same and the Naib Sarpanch attached the rider that he has to be paid commission of Rs. 3,000 per house,” said sources.
Sources said that although ACD Rajouri had promised that action would be taken in the case but nothing like that has happened so far. In the meantime, the locals have demanded action on the basis of complaints lodged by the locals through the video.
Director Rural Development Department (RDD) Jammu, Sudershan Kumar said that action would be taken in the matter adding that the video should be forwarded to him so that same acts as base for any action.
