EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 8: The Back To Village-3 (B2V3) programme at Darbadan Panchayat in Kishtwar District presented altogether a different picture from the routine rituals associated with it as a senior government official who was designated as visiting officer for the area mesmerized the locals with his dance steps.
In a video that went viral on various social media platforms, Chief Agriculture Officer Kishtwar Satish Kumar Bhagat, designated for the B2V3 programme could be seen dancing on a famous Kashmiri song written and sung some 40 to 50 years ago by renowned Kishtwari poet and singer Ghulam Nabi Doolwal alias Janbaaz Kishtwari.
Visiting Officer Bhagat in order to keep the interest of the participants alive shook his legs with Block Development Council Chairman Kishori Lal Shan during the day long proceedings while the local youths sung the song on the beats of Dholki.
As soon as the video of the dance goes viral on social media, the people started debating over the action of the visiting officer and few of them even demanded action against the officer.
While the debate gained momentum, ADC Kishtwar Pawan Kumar Parihar came to the rescue of his officer and appreciated him. “Cultural items have been declared as a part of activity for back to village programme and the officer has done nothing wrong,” Parihar wrote in support of Chief Agriculture Officer Kishtwar. The song on which the visiting officer shook his legs with BDC Chairman Thakrie has historical relevance. This is the same song which was once performed by legendary singer Janbaaz Kishtwari in front of former Prime Minister of J&K Ghulam Mohammad Bakshi, who had to leave the venue after Kishtwari refused cash reward offered by him.
“Bakshi offered money to Kishtwari in praise for his song but the singer declined,” said a local.
“Mere Shauk Ko Mera Paisha Na Samjho, Yeh Meri Khudai Ko Ganwara Nahin (Don’t misunderstood my love and passion for music as my business.
All this is not acceptable to my dignity,” the legendry singer believed to have told Bakshi, added the local.
