No new post created in vital departments at SSH Jammu
Lateral entry for specialist doctors

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 8: In its lateral entry scheme for specialized doctors, the Health and Medical Education (HME) department has not created any new posts, and new entries will be made on the basis of posts sanctioned in 2010 for the Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Jammu.
According to the insiders the workload in 2010 was too less in comparison to 2020 and future, but in 2015, the then health minister Bali Bhagat sanctioned Rs 50 crores to install a theater for Renal transplant but till date no case has been operated there. “After the amount was sanctioned the people handing SSH Jammu procured a laser machine and also placed an order for Robot worth of Rs 30 crore,” the insiders added. They said, “Only two doctors have been appointed to run the renal transplant unit. Are two doctors enough to run the show?” asked a senior doctor.
The doctor further said, “Two doctors won’t be able to cater to the urology department where the patients have to wait for surgery. This will definitely push the patients towards the private clinics. It is very important to appoint required staff that can cater to the increased number of patients in 2020.”
“But the posts advertised by the government especially in Urology are same as they were in 2010 which clearly cannot cope up the increasing number of patients. In urology department, only three associate professors are working currently,” he added.
“The government has not issued any order to ban the private practice of government doctors. In all other union territories of India, the private practice of government doctors is strictly prohibited, but why the same rule is not being applied in union territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, said another senior doctor of GMC Jammu, adding that the lateral entry provisions will create a new kind of nepotism where the favorite doctors will be picked up and will be given the prime positions in prime departments. “This will give rise to disputes among the genuine and worthy candidates and that will only be solved by legal fights”, he added.
Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dullo when contacted said that both issues are different. “Government will take final decision about ban on private practice of doctors, while creation of new posts of specialized doctors is under consideration”, he added.
