EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 9: A meeting was held in the office of Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, Prof Manoj Dhar, to take stock of the current admission status for the Academic Session 2020-21 and also to explore the possible means of accommodating most students in the Constituent Colleges and Schools of the Cluster University.
Dean Academic Affairs, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Principals of Constituent Colleges, Deans of Faculties, Dean Students Welfare and the IT Team attended the meeting.
The Committee thoroughly discussed the possible mechanism by which a good number of seats can be released for admission to students. Keeping in view the ongoing demand of the students to increase the intake capacity, it was decided that the University will bring out another list of UG General programme at the earliest on the basis of available vacancies. Also, sequel to the declaration of results of other Competitive examinations and Prime Minister’s Scholarships schemes, if vacancy arises, seats shall be allotted to students in the waiting list as per merit.
All those selected students who could not deposit their fees within the stipulated time are being given another opportunity for admission in the fourth list purely on the basis of merit/rank/opted preferences of the students subject to availability of seats.
Another demand of students of starting evening colleges to adjust students in two shifts was deliberated and it was pointed out that in sequence to the Government order and also in accordance to the UGC norms of 40 hours working per week the work timing of the University / constituent Colleges is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; hence it is not possible to start evening Colleges as per CBCS course structure adopted by the University.
Also, the attendees of the meeting strongly refuted the baseless allegations made by the students of reducing the intake capacity from almost 15000 to 6000 seats which was actually never 15000 seats.
The Vice Chancellor sought the cooperation of all the Principals of Constituent Colleges in the matter and further exhorted that the University is making strenuous efforts to accommodate students as best as possible without diluting the quality parameters of Higher Education.
