KUPWARA, Oct 10: Army foiled weapon smuggling today along the line of control (LoC) at Keran sector and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition. A top army official in a statement said that, army noticed movement of two to three men who were transporting some items in a tube through Kishanganga River and with timely action the weapon smuggling bid was foiled by alert troops. The official said that the timely action of alert forces has foiled smuggling of war like stores successfully, and patrolling of our jawans will remain with great enthusiasm. They said that after the timely action troops reached the spot and recovered a huge cache of war-like stores that include, 4 AK-47 rifles, 08 Magazines and 240 AK rifle rounds. Militants are trying hard to infiltrate this LoC, but all their nefarious designs will be foiled by our strong forces, we will not allow them to disturb the peace process in the valley, the official told ET. A case has been registered and further investigation has been initiated, more details will be shared later on, the official added. However it was learnt that on October 7, India and Pakistan armies exchanged gunfire along the line of control in Baramulla district. There was no loss of lives or property in the border shelling that took place in Uri in the recent past, said sources. While on Oct 9, India and Pakistan armies exchanged gunfire along LoC in Nowgam sector of Handwara.
