Doda: Influential veterinary doctors leave people, their livestock in lurch

Jammu, Oct 10: Residents of Thatri and Assar Sub Division in Doda District are up in arms against the veterinary doctors, who have left them and their livestock in lurch, by managing their attachments in Jammu at the pretext of COVID-19.
According to the details available with Early Times two senior Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) posted in Thatri and Assar areas managed their attachments at District Sheep Husbandry Officer Jammu on the directions of the Director Sheep Husbandry Department, Jammu under the garb of COVID 19 and since last five months people and their livestock is suffering in absence of the veterinary doctors.
Sources informed that the former District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Doda Dr. Javeed Ahanger had issued the order directing Dr. Sidarth Mahajan, VAS Thatri in the office of Director Sheep Husbandry Department, Jammu for further duties.
“In partial modification to this office order no. 358-63, dated: 12-5-2020, Dr. Sidharth Mahajan, VAS, Thatri shall now report in the office of the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Jammu for further duties as he is held up at Jammu due to pandemic COVID-19 lockdown till further orders. This refers to the telephonic instructions of the Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Jammu today on 14-5-2020. Read the order issued by District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Doda vide No. DSHOD/Estt/20-21/CJ/1-6 Dated 14-5-2020.
Similar order was issued with regard to another Dr. Najeeb Qazi, VAS Assar.
The locals told the “Early Times” that they approached the concern SDMs and other officials on many occasions and also raised the issue during the Back To Village Meetings, but nothing was done as both the doctors stay attached at at the office of District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Jammu.
The people rued the continuous absence of the veterinary doctors from their legitimate duties despite government paying them hefty salaries and termed the grounds on which the doctors have been attached at Jammu as bizarre and called upon the concerned authorities to direct both the doctors to immediately join their duties at respective places.
Both Thatri and Assar Sub Divisions of Doda District constitute the population of around 2 lakh people and mostly belong to poor families who mostly remain dependent on livestock and agriculture.
When contacted incumbent District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Doda told the “Early Times” that his predecessor had issued both the orders added that the higher authorities have been intimated about their requirement at their respective post added that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Doda, the salaries of both the doctors has been kept withheld.
Despite repeated attempts DC Doda could not be reached out for his comment till the filling of this report.
