Imposition of property tax will be final nail in the coffin: JDU
10/11/2020 12:31:30 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 10 Janata Dal United President for Jammu and Kashmir Saturday slammed Government proposal to implement property tax through the municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipal committees in J&K. While addressing a press conference here in Summer Capital Srinagar, GM Shaheen, the JDU president said that such a decision will adversely affect a large chunk of population both in Kashmir and Jammu. He said imposing property tax is the otherwise name of harassment and this will crush people economically who are already suffering immensely due to prevailing situation from past one year. Pertinently, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has empowered the J&K administration to impose property taxes through the municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipal committees in the Union Territory, evoking criticism from the regional parties. GM Shaheen said that instead of giving respite to the common people, government is dragging them towards hardships. “Kashmir has already suffered a lot and now imposition of property tax will be final nail in the coffin,” he said.
He said the imposition of property tax will have serious negative repercussions in the future. Shaheen appealed LG Manoj Sinha to go for a reshuffle in bureaucracy. He said government servants are disconnected with people as they prefer to stay in cozy rooms rather than addressing and listening to the grievances of common people.
