Probe COVID irregularities
10/14/2020 12:19:37 AM

A few people turning COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity to earn quick money has shocked everyone. People are asking how can be a few elements be so mean and eccentric who turned pandemic into a chance to fill their coffers by resorting to illegal means.
Soon after the pandemic broke out the administration went into a firefighting mode and setup numerous COVID care centers across Jammu and Kashmir to handle the COVID-19 positive patients and their contacts. In the initial days these centers were filled up with the people. But the complaints about poor quality of food and no proper sanitation were galore. At that point of time administration couldn’t do much as fighting the virus was the priority, but now people are raising the issue. They are asking what happened to the funds which were provided by the Centre and the UT administration to take care of the COVID patients and their contacts?
According to the media reports if a probe is ordered many skeletons will tumble and it will open up a Pandora’s Box. Many people believe that lot of money has been allegedly swindled while procuring the items which were meant for the patients and their contacts.
The government had sanctioned a handsome amount to take care of the patients and their contacts but the poor quality of food, which was served and the arrangements not being upto the mark proved it beyond doubt that the money was not utilized properly. Ones, who were assigned the job to overlook the arrangements took their jobs casually and didn’t pay much attention towards the food quality and the arrangements which had to be put in place.
Many people have approached the various grievance cells formed by the government and have registered complaints against what prevailed in the COVID care centers. They want stern action against those who saw COVID as an opportunity to “mint money.” These elements didn’t realize that the people were fighting an invisible enemy and had no guarantee about whether they will live to see another day or not.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration should order a probe to ascertain if compromise were made in purchases for COVID management. Another aspect which needs to be looked into is why a few officials ignored their duties? And who allowed them to get away with it.
