BDO Kahara takes RTI Act for a ride, denies information to applicant

JAMMU, Oct 13: The officials in Rural Development Department continue to take the Right to Information Act for a ride by denying the information to applicant under the RTI 2009 without fearing from any action. Since the RTI Act in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has become toothless, the officers at the helm of the affairs had no fear while denying the information sought by the people.
As per the details available with “Early Times” in one such latest example of denial of information under the RTI Act has come to fore from the Block Kahara of Doda District wherein the applicant despite depositing Rs. 1500 in the official account of the RDD department, the BDO Kahara, MPW and GRS fail to act despite the lapse of more than two months.
The RTI applicant Muddasir Ali Khan who filled an RTI application before the BDO Kahara on 18-7-2020 told the Early Times that BDO Kahara vide letter No. BDOK/2020-21/535-36 dated 29-7-2020 has directed him to deposit Rs. 1500/ on account of charges of photostate and other allied charges which was accordingly deposited by him.
He said that after depositing the requisite amount in the account of the Department, BDO Kahara issued the directions to Abdul Gani (VLW) and Ghulam Mohammad (GRS Pyt. Gohila) to provide the information demanded by him, but even after the lapse of more than one month, the department fail to provide information to him. He said that after waiting for over one month, he filed first appeal before the Assistant Commissioner Development Doda on 31-08-2020 added that ACD Doda was pleased to direct the concern officials to provide information to him, but despite the directions from ACD Doda, BDO Kahara, concern MPW and GRS fail to provide any information to him and called upon the LG Manoj Kumar Sinha and Chief Secretary J&K BVR Subramanian to take strict action against the officials who take the RTI Act for ride by denying information to the information seekers like him.
He seeks the information pertaining to Panchayat Goila with regard to 14th FC Plan for the period from 2015 onwards, details of IAY/PMAY cases including names of beneficiaries, list of vendors including the type of material supplied by these vendors, details of job card holders, details of skilled and unskilled payments, photo copies of contingent register and details of IHHL and CSC center.
