Lawyers demand opening of courts, resumption of physical hearing
10/16/2020 12:21:27 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 15: The Advocates practicing in Jammu High Court as well as Subordinate Courts assembled here today in large numbers in the High Court Complex on the agenda of functioning of the Courts and prevailing problems faced by the lawyers.
They held open meeting which was presided over by a presidium comprising of JA Kazmi, Sikander Anand, HC Jalmeria, Chander Shekhar Gupta, Sabodh Jamwal and Pawan Manni, all senior lawyers.
Many senior and young lawyers addressed the gathering and expressed the grievances of the lawyers. Besides the members of the presidium, the speakers included BR Sharma, Bansi Lal Sharma, Manohar Gupta, Kuldip Parihar, Mohd Wazahat, Surjit Singh Andotra, Vabhishya Soodan, Jassi, Amzi John, Atul Raina, Upasna Thakur and Supriya Chouhan.
The lawyers expressed great anguish over the closure of entry to lawyers and the public to the Courts which is causing failure of justice to the people and the right of advocates to represent the litigants in the open courts. The Constitutional and legal rights are being denied to the public.
The under trials are languishing in jails for failure of the system to proceed in their cases. It is for the first time in the history of Judiciary that entry of lawyers to the courts is completely closed.
There is no justification when cinema halls, shopping mauls, pilgrimages, public parks, political campaign of parties, others offices are opened and working and courts are sealed for public and lawyers.
The lawyers termed it dictatorship, undemocratic and unconstitutional. The shifting of Registration of documents from Judicial Officers to Revenue officers has created hardship to general public and lawyers besides creeping of corruption.
The lawyers meet rejected the virtual mode and demanded opening of all courts for physical entry to lawyers and public while it also sought resumption of physical hearing.
