To save skin, Cong meticulously skips Gupkar meeting
Baal Baal Bach Gaye!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 15: Congress Party has meticulously saved its skin by skipping the meeting of the Gupkar signatories which took place at the Srinagar residence of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by recently released PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
The Congress Party which was also signatory to the declaration which was signed by various political groups in Kashmir on August 4, 2019- a day ahead of the Article 370 abrogation- has today decided not to be the part of the meeting.
Party’s JK President has cited a medical emergency as the reason for skipping the meeting which was otherwise significant due to the release of Mehbooba Mufti after 14 months of detention.
In view of the visit of AICC I/C for J&K Smt. Rajni Patil, said Congress state Chief, I remained engrossed with party meetings, followed by huge public gatherings during the last 8 days in Jammu as well as in Kashmir. “In this context, I was advised by the Doctors to undergo a thorough Medical Check-up besides Covid-19 examination as a result, I was not able to attend all Party meeting at the residence of former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. I thought it was advisable to get myself screened in order to clear the apprehensions” Mir said, adding “I have also conveyed this medical urgency to Farooq Saheb on Phone”.
Meanwhile, as per the insiders it was Congress party’s well planned strategy not to become part of the meeting as same can prove detrimental for the party in the coming elections being held in Bihar from October 27.
Dr Farooq Abdullah who is at the helm in the Gupkar declaration recently hogged headlines when he said that Article 370 could be restored with the help of China. His statement was ridiculed across the country by politicians cutting across the party lines. Now, it was the catch 22 situation for the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir as it was one of the signatory of the Gupkar resolution last year. “It was an Aage Kuwan Pechae Khayi type situation for us. The party must have thought that it is better to remain away from any type of political activity in Jammu and Kashmir that could prove detrimental to the party ’s poll performance in other states of the country. After all, Congress is not a party of Jammu and Kashmir alone. It is a national party and BJP could have used the Gupkar declaration as a tool to target Congress during the poll rallies of Bihar. It is a simple grammar that needs to be understood,” said a party functionary here.
However, the question remains that for how long the Congress party and its leaders in Jammu and Kashmir could cite a medical emergency as a reason for skipping the Gupkar meets. Interesting are going to be the times ahead.
