KVK Rajouri celebrates Mahila Kisan Diwas

RAJOURI, Oct 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri, under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST, Jammu today celebrated “Mahila Kisan Diwas” in collaboration with Department of Agriculture.
About 30 progressive farm women, besides PRI representatives and field officers participated in the programme organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri.
The programme was organised with the aim to applaud the role of women in agriculture and motivate them to play a vital role in doubling farm income.
Mahesh Verma, Chief Agriculture Officer, Rajouri, was the chief guest.
Dr. Arvind Kumar Ishar, senior scientist and head of KVK Rajouri, while addressing the gathering deliberated on the role of women in agriculture and emphasized their importance in doubling farm income. He said that women not only manage their house properly but also help farmers at their field as well as in managing crop storage and animal rearing. He impressed upon the farm women to learn vocations like mushroom farming, backyard poultry farming, bee keeping, and value addition of local fruits and vegetables.
Dr. Ishar informed that KVK is regularly organizing such skill development training for farmers and local youth. He talked in detail about various schemes of KVK being implemented for the welfare of farming community.
The Chief Agriculture Officer, while interacting with the participants, talked about various schemes being implemented by his department and emphasized upon the farmers to take full advantage of these schemes so that they may enhance their income.
He cited example of various progressive farm women across the country and advised local progressive women to come forward and set an example for others.
He assured all help from department of agriculture for establishing such agriculture related units in the district.
Randhir Sharma, DAO (Extension) impressed upon participants to adopt Mushroom as vocation as it gives good returns. He informed that the farmers have advantage of local market as there is good demand of mushroom here and farmers can sell all their produce in local market thereby fetching good selling price.
Rajni Bala, a mushroom farmer was presented with a momento and certificate for her role in promoting mushroom cultivation.
Scientist of KVK, Dr. Vishal Sharma also spoke and talked in detail about Integrated Farming System.
