Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Nov 4: The reconstitution of Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (J&KPSC) has dented the employment opportunities of unemployed youth of the union territory who appeared in interviews for Assistant Professors in Higher Education department last year in the month of November.
At the same time the aspirants of Kashmir valley who are going to appear in interview this time around are perplexed since the interviews are being conducted in Jammu on November 19 and 20. They have demanded intervention of Lieutenant Governor so that their interviews are conducted in Srinagar.
Early Times has learnt that the interviews conducted last year were declared null and void as soon as J&KPSC was reconstituted following downgrading of Jammu & Kashmir to a union territory from state. This meant that the candidates who had applied for posts of Assistant Professors in different subjects in Higher Education department would have to face the interview yet again. “The interviews for Assistant Professor Posts in subjects like Clinical Bio-Chemistry, Geography and others have been rescheduled for November 19 and 20. It is highly unfortunate that the candidates of Kashmir valley have to travel to Jammu to appear in the interview. The Commission should look into this aspect and provide relief to the aspirants,” said a group of candidates.
The candidates made it clear that they are not averse to appearing in the interview yet again but said that interviews for Kashmir based candidates should be held in the valley. They said the experts could have been called to the valley for carrying out the interviews of valley based candidates at Srinagar.
“Last year too we were forced to visit to Jammu for appearing in the interview and we had to pay hefty sum as air fare since the highway got closed due to snowfall in the first week of November. This time around since the Corona Virus is there we feel scared to go to Jammu and appear in the interview. The PSC authorities should look into this aspect and take the corrective measures,” said the candidates.
Besides the interviews for Assistant Professors the J&KPSC is also going to conduct interviews for various faculty positions in Government Medical College, Srinagar. These interviews are scheduled to be held in branches of medicine like Surgery, Ophthalmology and Anesthesiology. Here too the valley based candidates have to travel to Jammu for appearing in the interviews.
Early Times tried to contact J&KPSC Chairman B R Sharma for his quote but an official of the Commission said that Sharma is out of station and would resume duties on November 9. Secretary of J&KPSC Rajesh Sharma did not bother to respond to repeated calls from this Correspondent.
