Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 7: Prof.Bhim Singh, Chief Patron, J&K National Panthers Party who returned after poll campaign in Ramban and Doda districts this evening urged the President of India, Ramnath Kovind to direct J&K administration to postpone DDC & Panchayat polls as weather condition do not allow any mobility election campaign.
He said that he himself could travel in the area 100 kms. in four hours. He conveyed to the President that weather conditions do not allow even light transport to move. It is not possible to drive on the roads and the people cannot even attend political meetings because of snowfall, rain and avalanche blocking the roads. Even the National Highway is stuck and vehicles remain stranded for hours. He wrote the President who is heading the Union Territory of J&K which unfortunately continues as a Union Territory and the political system has collapsed. The weather conditions in the month of December would not have allowed the elections of DDC or Panchayat in the month of December. NPP Supremo wrote to the President that no Assembly or Parliament or Panchayat elections have been held in the month of December or January ever before in the state of J&K.
Prof.Bhim Singh wrote that it took nearly 10 hours to drive through 150 kms. He and his party leaders could reach only at 1.30 hours (in the morning) to attend a meeting in Batote from Ramban only 70 kms. drive in the normal situation. Prof.Bhim Singh said that it is not possible to campaign or contact electorates in this weather in J&K. Holding DDC elections will amount to a great political fraud with the people particularly when it is passing through first ever President's Rule as Union Territory. He urged the President for his immediate intervention to direct the J&K administration to postpone DDC elections and restore statehood of J&K so that Indian citizens in J&K may also enjoy fundamental rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution which is applicable in J&K after the removal of Article 35-A.
