Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 7: Thousands of Kair trees located in the state land and forest land in some of the districts in Jammu division are being cut with the same being shown as belonging to common people by the Revenue department.
Sources told Early Times that thousands of Kair trees located in Taryath, Pouni and Sunderbani tehsils in the Reasi and Rajouri districts have been felled following permission granted by the concerned authority. They said that although the trees belong to the government they have been shown under the head of some locals.
"These trees are located in the forest land and state land and it is very much the property of the state government. The concerned revenue authorities have shown that these belong to the common people and as such huge loss is caused to state ex-chequer," said sources.
Sources said that marking of trees is done by the Department of Revenue and following it these trees are cut by the Department of Forest. The revenue officials especially the Patwari concerned and Girdawar concerned play a mischief by showing the trees as belonging to commoners instead of that being property of government.
A senior officer of Department of Forest on the condition of anonymity while acknowledging the fact said that government should constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and hold a probe in the entire matter. The officer said that the probe would make the picture crystal clear and the truth would come out before the people.
