Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15: Secretary, BJP Jammu & Kashmir, Rekha Mahajan, said that after Narendra Modi took over as PM in May 2014, things have improved a lot, more so, for Indian women. The credit for this remarkable change on the ground and in global perception goes to Modi. Rekha Mahajan said that for the first time, the government's flagship schemes are focusing on women. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, facilitates the education of the girl child and has already reached out to more than three crore aspirational young women. PM Jan Dhan Yojana, wherein, 40 crore bank accounts have been opened, more than 50% of the beneficiaries are women from the weaker sections of the society. Over 11 crore toilets have been built in rural India under the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and the women have been at the receiving end because earlier due to lack of toilets they had to face problems in their day to day life, particularly due to restrictions on when women can go out and relieve themselves in the open. The BJP government, under Narendra Modi, has increased maternity leave given not just to government employees but also private employees to 26 weeks from 12 weeks. Cooking food, using a gas connection, may not be a big deal for many but for the eight crore beneficiaries of Modi 's Ujjwala Yojna getting a free gas connection is a major milestone, which helps women to lead smoke-free lives, thus leading to a healthier lifestyle.
