Construction on state land in Kupwara, authorities fail to take action
12/16/2020 12:04:51 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Despite clear instructions and circulars from the court and government from time to time about not to construct any structure on state land in Kashmir, it seems that the same thing is not being applied on the influential violators in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
Sources informed Early Times that it is unfortunate that people take it for granted and with the result an influential individual (name withheld) on the behest of an some MC employees and political parties, is busy in constructing an illegal building in Hyhama near main town of Kupwara, and the authorities concerned have failed to initiate an action against the said person.
According to sources that, from past many weeks, the violators who happens to be some political workers and an influential person, where as his some close relatives are working in the Municipal Council Kupwara is constructing a shopping complex of which a base work and some pillars have been or rather constructed inside during night hours without letting anybody know what is going on.
Sources said that they informed the Executive officer MC Kupwara about this illegal construction that is going in Kupwara near J&K Bank Qasba Hyhama, but don’t know why she has failed to take any action so far and fact of the matter is that we brought the same issue into the notice of Thesildar Kupwara, according to whom it should not have happened , and we have not issued any No objection Certificate (NoC) to the violator.
Sources said that on revenue papers this land belongs to State/ Govt Land, and the same was informed to the EO, MC Kupwara. Though she had assured that she will get the details of it and will send a team for demolishing the illegal structure, nothing was done so far.
However sources alleged that it seems there is great nexus between the land grabber and the authorities concerned, if the same thing continues the whole market will be grabbed by the encroachers shortly.
Bashir Ahmad (name changed), a local resident of Kupwara town said there is strong resentment among the locals over the matter, if the illegal structure was not demolished by the authorities it will encourage others to encroach the state land not only in the Kupwara town but in the adjoining areas of the district.
“We request the DC Kupwara Anshul Garg, who is very honest and dedicated, the concerned EO, MC Kupwara Aurooja and the Thesildar and other law enforcing agencies to look into the matter and take action against the violators and demolish the illegal construction at the earliest,” said few other locals.
