PAGD leaders unnerved as people vote in large numbers
DDC Elections

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 15: Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)—an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties—seems to be unnerved due to people coming out in large numbers to cast their votes in the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) elections.
The statements being issued by the PAGD leaders indicate that they are feeling the heat and have realized that winning these polls won’t be a cake walk.
“It seems that the calculations of the PAGD leaders have not worked. They were under the impression that people won’t come out to vote and sailing through will be easy. But it hasn’t happened. People have come out to vote and have exercised their franchise in favour of the candidates whom they liked,” said an observer.
He said, “The infighting within the PAGD has also created confusion among the constituents of the amalgam. NC and PDP activists who were denied the PAGD tickets are contesting as independents in many constituencies. This has led to the division of votes and there is every possibility about this factor going in favour of other parties.”
An analyst said, “The PAGD can only pin hopes on Kashmir Valley, it cannot do much in Jammu as it has no locus standi in the region. The only party the PAGD in banking in Jammu is the Congress but the grand old party of the country too is on a very weak wicket in any of the areas.”
It’s in place to mention here that soon after the DDC polls commenced the State Election Commissioner K K Sharma announced that no exit polls will be held till all the eight phases are completed. Till now no attempt has been made by any of the agencies to project which party is having an upper hand.
The analyst said, “ The competition is stiff. No one can predict who will win and the ones who were claiming that they will emerge as champions are fearing that they may end up on a losing side.”
