Dheeraj reviews status of slaughter houses in J&K

JAMMU, Dec 15: A meeting of apex committee constituted to monitor progress of construction of modern hygienic slaughter houses in J&K was held here today under the Chairmanship of Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department.
Chairing the meeting, Principal Secretary reviewed the progress of construction of modern hygienic slaughter houses in Jammu, Srinagar and other districts of the Union Territory.
Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, who attended the meeting online, informed that a modern hygienic slaughter house is being constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) at Alochibagh which shall be completed by August, 2021.
It was also informed in the meeting that the Jammu Municipal Corporation is constructing two modern hygienic slaughter houses at Dogra Hall and Gujjar Nagar, Jammu which have been approved by Government of India and the construction will start soon.
Pertinently, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu has already submitted a model DPR for setting up of slaughter houses in various Municipal Committees/ Councils of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The existing slaughter houses which are not up to the norms are being upgraded and in places where no slaughter houses are existing, DPR for setting up of new slaughter houses have been prepared. Similarly, in Kashmir division land has been identified for setting up of modern hygienic slaughter houses.
Principal Secretary also emphasized that private slaughter houses also need to be regulated and Pollution Control Board should take strict action against those slaughter houses which are not adhering to the norms.
The Meeting was attended by Labour Commissioner, Secretary, Pollution Control Board, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu/ Kashmir, Secretary (Law) and Additional Secretary, HUDD, representatives of Jammu Municipal Corporation/ Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry Jammu/Kashmir.
