DDC Elections: 298 candidates in fray for Phase-7

JAMMU, Dec 15: As many as 298 candidates are in fray for Phase-7 of the ongoing District Development Council elections to be held on Wednesday across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
State Election Commissioner, K K Sharma here told reporters that total 280 constituencies in UT of J&K (14 in each district) will go for polling on Wednesday, adding, "voting will be conducted in 31 constituencies, including 13 from Kashmir Division and 18 from Jammu Division."
Poll timing is, from 0700 hours to 1400 hours in Phase-7, he said and added that total 298 candidates are in electoral fray including 148 from Kashmir division and 150 from Jammu division for DDC elections.
"Out of 298 candidates 226 are male whereas 72 are female candidates," said the SEC adding, "687115 electors (359187 male and 327928 female voters) in 31 DDC constituencies."
The SEC said that as many as 1852 polling stations with 1068 in Kashmir division and 784 in Jammu division are set up for the voting.
However, Sarpanch By Polls, out of 117 constituencies, the Sarpanchs election will be conducted in 69 constituencies and total 231 candidates are contesting in Phase VII including 152 male and 79 female candidates, he added.
Besides, in Panchs by-poll elections, of 1270 constituencies, elections will be held on 438 with 1000 candidates (including 713 males and 287 females) are in electoral fray.
"As many as 30 Sarpanchs and 416 Panchs have been elected unopposed," said Sharma.
