Kishtwar witnesses 74% polling in last phase of DDC elections
NC backed candidates won 2 Sarpanch seats, BJP bags 1

JAMMU, Dec 19: With a massive 74% polling, the people in Kishtwar District continuously cast their votes overwhelmingly in last phase of the DDC elections too with Kishtwar DDC constituency witnessed 77% voter turnout.
The last phase of the first ever DDC and Panchayat By-Election 2020 ended today peacefully under the overall supervision of District Panchayat Election Officer Kishtwar Ashok Sharma for the two District Development Council constituencies of district Kishtwar viz Kishtwar and Trigam with a turnout of 73.45%.
In this phase, a total of 15779 voters were registered for Kishtwar DDC constituency and a total of 6582 voters were registered for Trigam DDC Constituency.
The election went smoothly across the 2 constituencies amid administrative and security arrangements and people from all walks of life came out to cast their votes. 9 candidates were in fray for Kishtwar DDC constituency including NC's Zakir Hussain Butt, PDP's Sheikh Nasir Hussain and BJP's Raj Kumar Shan while 3 candidates were contesting for Trigam DDC constituency.
By-election for 2 vacant Sarpanch seats in Kishtwar and 1 vacant Sarpanch seat in Trigam were also conducted smoothly. 6 candidates were in fray for Matta B Kishtwar besides 3 candidates for Pochal A and 2 candidates for Trigam vacant Sarpanch seat were contesting.
From Trigam and Poochal A, Ashok Kumar and Kamlesha Devi backed by NC won the Sarpanch election while BJP backed Satish Kumar won election from Matta B.
The turnout for DDC polls was recorded at 76.93% in Kishtwar and 65.12% in Trigam DDC constituency besides the turnout for Sarpanch seat in Trigam remain 79.22% and overall poll percentage for Sarpanch seats in Kishtwar DDC constituency was recorded as 72.92%
With the successful completion of 8th phase, the process of DDC elections has been culminated successfully.
With the successful completion of the polling exercise for DDC and Panchayat by-elections DPEO Kishtwar has thanked the people in general and the polling staff in particular for their cooperation in making this exercise a grand success.
DPEO Kishtwar further informed that the counting shall be held on 22-12-2020 at 6 identified venues of the district including KV Kishtwar, GDC Kishtwar, CFC building Paddar, TRC Chatroo, GHSS Yourdu Marwah and HSS Dachhan for which deployed staff has been trained for every aspect of counting.
