PAGD Faces Crisis
12/28/2020 11:21:29 PM
Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)—an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties—facing a crisis like situation just after the results of the District Development Council (DDC) polls were announced has created confusion within the conglomerate.
According to the media reports many PAGD candidates are in touch with Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party leaders and are mulling to join the party led by Altaf Bukhari. Why are people leaving the PAGD? The answer seems clear that the alliance is nothing but a failed experiment. The leaders of Kashmir centric parties have been unable to keep their flock together.
The PAGD has been claiming that it would form the DDC boards in 13 districts, but it seems that the calculations of the amalgam leaders are bound to fail as the independents and the PAGD rebels are out to spoil the party.
When the Kashmir centric parties had joined hands to form the PAGD they had announced that power is not their aim and they have come together to fight for a bigger cause. But as soon as the DDC elections were announced the PAGD decided to contest these polls and claimed that it would sweep these elections.
The first U-turn which the conglomerate took was that it decided to contest the elections. The cracks started appearing as soon as the parties entered into a seat sharing agreement. In fact, at many places the PAGD candidates had to fight against the contestants who were the activists of the parties that constituted the alliance. Independents winning more than 50 DDC seats has put the PAGD in a big mess as these candidates hold the key and if they decide to join the Apni Party it will dash the dreams of the PAGD to form DDC boards in 13 districts across J&K.
Besides fighting the independents the PAGD is facing the revolt within the party and if the rebels decide to quit the alliance it will mean more trouble for the Gupkar Alliance. Another factor that has come to fore after the results of the DDC polls were announced is that there is no coordination between the Kashmir centric parties that had come together to fight for a bigger cause. The fall of PAGD looks eminent the cracks have turned big and wide. It appears that the conglomerate has lost the battle even before entering into a battlefield.
