Transport Commissioner flags off Walkathon-cum-Awareness Rally to mark launch of campaign

Jammu, Jan 18: The 32nd National Road Safety Month was today inaugurated by Transport Commissioner, J&K Pardeep Kumar, with the flagging off a Walkathon-cum-Awareness Rally, here atGulshan Ground.
Senior Superintendent Police Traffic Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Highlighting the importance of National Road Safety Month, the Transport Commissioner said that enforcement of Traffic regulations and awareness regarding Road Safety measures is essential for preventing road accidents. He advised the department to organise such activities throughout the year to create a change in mindset of the people so that the people voluntarily follow traffic rules.
“Road accidents are preventable and it is very important that awareness programmes are organised with active involvement of drivers, youth and school children to educate the people about the road safety rules and imbibing safe driving habits.
The Transport Commissioner flagged off a Walkathon (walk for awareness) under the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha” in which students from different educational institutions, drivers, NSS/NCC volunteers, officers and officials of MVD participated. The Road Safety Walkathon started from Gulshan Ground, and culminated at Green Field, covering a distance of around two (02) KM.
Earlier, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Dhananter Singh, while welcoming the guests highlighted the series of events to be organised during the Road Safety Month. He said that public different programmes like Health checkup for drivers, Symposium, Rahagiri etc. will be held during the month long campaign which would benefit all sections of the society.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Satish Kumar Sharma, appreciated the role of the department in organising the road safety activities for developing sense of safe driving among the general public. He stressed upon the need to follow and observe traffic rules in our daily lives.
Additional Transport Commissioner, J&K, Raman Kesar; Additional Secretary, Road Safety Council, Ramesh Bhat; Joint Transport Commissioner, J&K, Gurmukh Singh; Additional SP Traffic, Pardeep Singh Gouria; ARTOs, staff of the MVD, besides, representatives of all Auto Mobile Dealer Association, Presidents of Passenger Services Groups, Driving school Association also attended the programme.
