Early Times Report

Kulgam, Jan 18: In a shocking incident, a 6-year old girl and 10 year old boy of a nomadic family, died in Kulgam due to freeing weather.
The nomadic family was homeless and was putting up in a tent in Brinal Lammar village Kulgam, reports said.
The deceased children have been identified as Sahil Zubair (10) son of Zubair Ahmad Mandar, of Reasi.
According to reports, during the intervening night of Sunday—Monday the family’s 6-year-old daughter Shazia Jan also developed some complications due to severe cold and the family immediately shifted her to a nearby healthcare facility.
They said that Shazia died on way to the healthcare facility.
Additional District Commissioner Kulgam, Showket Ahmad Rather admitted the death of twp children to freezing temperature however claimed that the family was advised to shift in near school of 3rd of this month but they refused.
“On 3rd of January, we directed our Lamberdar to shift the family in School but they refused and locals of the habitation assured that they will provide accommodation to the family members voluntarily,” he said.
ADC said that Nai-Tehsildar and Tehsildar Devsar also requested the family to move but they didn’t obey the directions.
“We tried our best to shift this family in school but they refused to do it on multiple occasions,” he said.
ADC said that they had shifted a number of families to safer locations in Devsar particularly in Waltengoonad area.
“We are looking it to it and trying to provide possible support to the family,” he said.
However the family contested the claims of Kulgam administration and claimed that they were never helped.
“A team of officials visited us and assured help on the day when we lost our first kid but then they saw the second child (deceased girl) was also ill but they (officials) did nothing to help the ill girl. She was left to die in this tent,” Bilal Nazir, family member told media.
He said that the officials of Kulagm administration, who visited them earlier, could have saved the life of 6 year old girl by shifting her to hospital.
