Call off strike, resume duties: Dharmarth Trust to employees
1/18/2021 10:28:47 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 18: The management of Dharmarth Trust, which looks after the temples in Jammu and Kashmir, has appealed to its protesting employees in Jammu city, to call off their strike and resume their duties at the earliest.
The Trust clarified that the strike of employees was restricted to a group of employees in Jammu city, meanwhile Temples across the state were functioning smoothly. Furthermore, employees in Temples outside Jammu were not in favour of this strike and did not support the anti-religious and anti-organisation activities of the strike. It is also relevant to note that many employees of the Trust in Jammu city were affected by the strong anti-corruption measures carried out by the Trust in recent times due to many complaints from yatris and devotees especially at Raghunath Mandir, Jammu. However, some vested interests and disgruntled employees did not favour such anti-corruption measures that the Dharmarth Trust undertook in public interest and in favour of the yatris.
At the same time, the Trust also warned the striking employees that it will take appropriate action as the employer, if the employees do not join back and perform their duties. The striking employees have been receiving their salaries regularly since the time they have been on strike however, but they have not been performing their duties hence, the management and welfare of the Temples in Jammu city have suffered. The Trust management stated that it would start proceeding as per guidelines declared by the Hon’ble Supreme Court with regard to ‘No work, No pay’ and ‘termination of services of temporary employees’ if the employees do not resume their work.
The Management of Dharmarth Trust has also repeatedly said to the striking employees that their reasonable demands and grievances such as increase in salary would be considered in the next financial year. Currently, the Trust is already spending seventy percent of its annual budget on salaries of employees which has been a burden on its limited resources. However, the striking employees continue to be on strike and protest with unjustified demands and unreasonable conditions for any settlement.
In a statement issued by the Trust it was said that a handful of employees of the Trust are being misguided by some anti-social elements and disgruntled ex-employees which are trying to malign the public image of the Trust. While the temples under the Trust are functioning smoothly across Jammu and Kashmir, the functioning is hampered in Jammu city due to these protests and the strike.
