Government must fulfill obligations to clean environment: TMF

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 18: Even after 54th days of Kissan Andolan no amicable solution to the stalemate between the government and agitating farmers who are bent upon insisting Central Government to withdraw all the three farm laws pleading that the same is not in the interest of farmers.
The Government plea that the Kissan Andolan is being carried out by vested interests of few and not by all farmers which otherwise would help farmers to be self-reliant.
Chairman Sharma appealed central Government that the places around Andolan in the periphery of Delhi the capital of country is being polluted by defecation of farmers in open. The farmers have defied the mobile bathrooms and toilets for the reasons that the same were carrying inscriptions of a political party which is not being encouraged by agitating farmers.
Besides, the fireworks being used by the farmers continue to pollute the environment regularly. According to Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India(ASSOCHAM) the economies of Punjab, HP, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir are bearing a daily loss of Rs.3,500 crore due to the demonstrations as per media reports.
In the backdrop of the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, the situation at the protest site is alarming as social distancing and other protocols are not being adhered.
Even the Apex Court enquired from the Government regarding the steps that are being taken to prevent the area becoming a Covid-19 hotspot.
Now the pathetic sanitary conditions in the area are adding to the woes of the farmers and the worries of the Authorities. The conditions of women at the protest site is worse. They are actually foregoing food and water for long stretches in order to avoid going to the toilets that are poorly provisioned.
Given that the stakes are so high, Government must provide better facilities to cultivators and create a conducive environment on the ground so that neither the protesters nor the ecosystem remain at the receiving end.
