EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 31: Emotional tributes were paid to the martyrs of 1953 Praja Parishad agitation at an event organised by Praja Parishad Memorial Trust at Jourian in which Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Farooq Khan, BJP president for J&K Ravinder Raina and former deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh participated as the chief guests.
Several other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and prominent civil society members also attended the event which also witnessed announcement of a sports stadium for Jourian by the Advisor Khan.
Recalling the supreme sacrifice made by patriotic martyrs, who laid down their lives during the 1953-Praja Parishad agitation in Akhnoor, Advisor Khan paid rich tribute to the martyrs.
Meanwhile, Advisor Khan also announced a sports stadium to be established for the youth.
“The union territory government has decided to establish a sports stadium in Jourian area to encourage the youth of the area to take to the sports activities. Sports are not a great avenue for the youth but also keeps them away from ill habits such as drugs,” said Advisor Khan.
In his address, BJP president Ravinder Raina said that the Praja Parishad agitation of 1953 was launched with the slogan -- ‘Ek Vidhan-Ek Nishan-Ek Pradhan’ to ensure full integration of J&K state with the rest of the country. “Their sacrifice will always be remembered. It brings tears to my eyes that it was only after almost seven decades later that the BJP government fulfilled their dream of ‘Ek Vidhan-Ek Nishan-Ek Pradhan’ when it abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” said an emotional Raina.
Speaking on the occasion, former deputy chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh said, “The real tribute has been paid to these martyrs by the bold and historic decision of the abrogation of Articles 370 & 35(A) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.”
State Vice President BJP and former minister Sham Sharma also paid rich tributes to the martyrs and said that, ‘we must remember the sacrifices and tell their tale to future generations’. President Praja Parishad Memorial Trust, Jourian Daljit Singh Chib also spoke on the occasion.
