Restaurants close in Jammu at 9 pm; Delhi, Rajasthan Govts lift night restrictions
Hoteliers suffer as J&K administration remains indecisiveness to extend closure timings
1/31/2021 11:40:23 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 31: With night restrictions having lifted in places like Delhi and Rajasthan, the business of restaurants has started picking up in these places. But the J&K administration has not lifted the curbs as the restaurants close down in the union territory by 9 pm. If any establishment violates the timing order heavy fine is imposed.
On January 19, Rajasthan government lifted the night restrictions to lend a fillip to many sectors like tourism and travel, hotels, restaurants. The step, according to the Rajasthan government officials, was taken to infuse new life into the hotel and restaurant industries as these have suffered huge losses due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Delhi government in October last year had notified the order to relax restaurant timings.
Like Delhi and Rajasthan restrictions on restaurants have been eased in many states and union territories, but the curbs remain at place in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Jammu, where the restaurants are not allowed to operate beyond 9pm. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many people working in restaurants have lost their jobs. Restrictions have proved to be a dampener as the people from neighbouring states are avoiding to travel to Jammu.
The business in the evenings accounted for a major portion of the day’s business in restaurants prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 in March last year. Even after one year the hoteliers are losing the most important business hours due to restrictions. “If the curbs continue we will lose more business and the people who were laid off during the COVID times will have to wait,” said a hotelier.
He said, “Jammu and Kashmir administration should take a cue from the governments of Delhi, Rajasthan and other states that are trying their best to help the businessmen to set things right. The J&K government should consider relaxing the timings of restaurants remaining open till midnight at least in Jammu region. It will help the sinking businesses in Jammu.”
He said, “Now, the COVID vaccine has also come and things have started moving. It’s high time for the J&K government to take steps that will help everyone.”
