Silence says it all

The State Election Commission has cleared the decks for elections of chairmen of the recently constituted District Development Council boards. The polls are slated for this month later.
After the results of the DDC elections have been declared the Kashmir centric parties that had come together and constituted People Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) have remained silent over the issue of who will head these boards. One of the PAGD constituents, Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone, has already pulled out from the conglomerate.
National Conference that bagged maximum number of seats among the alliance partners has dropped enough hints that it wants a Lion’s share. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti stands cornered as it just bagged 26 DDC constituencies.
The PAGD constituents have not met since the day election results were announced and it appears that the National Conference is in no mood to enter into any further agreement with the PDP and it may head the DDC boards in the districts where it has won the requisite number of seats.
The elections for the chairpersons of the DDC boards are likely to break the PAGD and end the bonhomie between the NC, PDP and few other smaller parties.
Developments that have taken place in the recent past indicate that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has been left alone as no one wants to be with her. Most of the Kashmir centric parties have realized that her rhetoric and senseless statements are creating problem for them and it’s better to stay away from her and the PDP.
The forthcoming elections to elect the people who will head the DDC boards are crucial as these will decide what happens next. The PAGD is already standing at crossroads due to Peoples Conference pulling out from the conglomerate.
The National Conference leadership turning mute and party vice-president Omar Abdullah reportedly asking his father Dr Farooq Abdullah to concentrate on the party affairs rather than the PAGD is a clear hint that the NC has already taken a decision.
In the present scenario it appears that the PDP has been the biggest loser and it’s at the verge of losing its relevance completely. Nothing seems to have worked out for the PDP president neither the promise of getting everything back nor an attempt to don the mantle separatists.
