Widespread resentment among business community for not lifting night restriction
Distressed shopkeepers demand relaxation up to 11 pm
2/2/2021 11:52:40 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 2: While the government also most lifted the restrictions on public movement but non- lifting of night restriction of the market has evoked strong resentment among the business community, which has already been reeling under financial stress.
They alleged that when all schools, restaurants, theatre etc. have been thrown open with full capacity then what is the reason to continue with the night restriction for the market, which has been restricted to 9 pm.
“We are already running under a huge financial crisis due to COVID-19 and now the continuance of existing restrictions has multiplied our woes. Despite the fact that the peak hours of the business establishment generally starts in the evening and continue till late night but due to non-lifting of restriction, they get only a few hours,” said the owners of Coffee shop, Medical Store.
They further said that customers mostly prefer shopping during night hours and the businesses related to eateries witness an influx of customers during late night. “Due to strict guidelines of 9 pm, we have to send back our customers, which impose bad impact on our daily sales and collections. We were very hopeful that restrictions on timing of markets will also be lifted but the decision of the government for not giving any relaxation on timing has come to us as a bolt from the blue,” said distressed shopkeepers.
They alleged that they could not understand the logic of the government behind the imposition of restriction till 9 pm, when all other functionaries have been thrown open with full capacity. “Our business is already running in losses due to lockdown and further restrictions and now wants that all restrictions should be lifted so that they might make good the loss. We witnessed a flow of customers after 5 pm,” said a shop owner. “There is positive vibes among the people after the release of the corona vaccine and the business establishments in other parts of India have been thrown open for full functioning and similarly the restrictions imposed on timing should also be lifted for the betterment of business owners,” said the owner of a Medical Shop.
