DDC members to play pivotal role in J&K’s developmental journey: Kavinder
Chairs meeting of elected DDC members at Udhampur

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Feb 3: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is going to witness unprecedented development in the time to come and the district development Councilors will play a pivotal role in this journey, former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta said on Wednesday. He made these remarks while chairing a meeting of elected District Development Council (DDC) members at Udhampur. “The establishment of three-tier system of the Panchayati Raj Institutions under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the watershed moment for grassroots democracy in Jammu and Kashmir leading the way for unprecedented development in the union territory,” Kavinder said.
He urged the DDC members to play the significant role given to them by the public with utmost sincerity.“The constitution of DDCs has not only strengthened grassroots democracy in the union territory but also put the power back with the people. People have chosen you as their representatives and it must be ensured that you play a pivotal role in this journey of development and progress,” Gupta told the meeting.
Gupta also said that successive previous governments did nothing for the welfare of common masses in Jammu and Kashmir. “The successive governments in the past have exploited the common masses, conveniently ignoring the genuine issues faced by them. In the past 70 years, the dynast rulers like Farooq and Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have looted the Jammu and Kashmir. They misused the funds given by Centre for the development of Jammu and Kashmir to fill their own coffers. They did not pay attention to the public and their issues, and couldn’t achieve anything on the ground level in all these years,” Kavinder said. Prominet among those who were present in the meeting include Ex MoS Shakti Parihar, Jeevan Sharma, Vipan Sharma, Puran Chand, Kuldeep Singh, Lal Chand, Puran Chand, Amit Sharma, Ashu Sharma, Pinky Dubey, Juhi Pathania, Mool Raj, Rakesh Sharma, Subash Sharma and Jatto Ram.
