Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 3: An Unani doctor is allegedly running an ultrasound centre illegally in Mohgla block of district Rajouri.
Sources told Early Times that every patient who visits Public Health Centre (PHC) Mohgla has no option but to go for an ultrasound test in a private and hidden clinic of the doctor engaged under National Health Mission. “This BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) degree holder doctor remains in his private clinic, housed in a rented room in Mohgla town, even during office hours. The doctor remain busy in hi clinic even during the duty hours as he enjoys the patronage of his senior,” sources alleged,
“Majority of people who visit PHC Mohgala for their medical check-up or treatment are forced to undergo ultrasound tests and have to pay a hefty charge for it,” they claimed.
They said that at CHC Kalakote there is an ultrasound machine and full-fledged lab with a dedicated team of technicians, but the doctor does not refer a single patient there. “In CHC Kalakote tests are done free of cost or on nominal rates, whether it is ultrasound, X-rays or clinical lab tests. Unfortunately, the people at the top are aware of the unholy practice but have turned a blind eye,” they said.
“The ultrasound lab has been set up in someone’s house, there is no sign board outside, even test reports are without the name of any doctor, who performed the test”, they alleged.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Rajouri Dr Shamim Bhatti when contacted said that it is wrong and illegal, if it is happening. “A BUMS and ISM doctor cannot perform ultrasound tests. I will check and take action, if the doctors are found guilty they will have to face the law”, he added.
