Free eye check-up camp, road safety awareness workshop conducted

JAMMU, Feb 5: As part of National Road Safety Month 2021 being celebrated, NHAI PIU Jammu in co-ordination with district administration conducted the eye check-up camp and Road Safety Awareness workshop at Bann Toll Plaza, Jammu.
On this occasion, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sajveev Verma, inaugurated the Camp and workshop in presence of RTO Jammu Dhanter Singh, SSP Traffic, Shiv Kumar and Regional Officer Hem Raj, IDSE & Project Director, Ajay Kumar Rajak of National Highways Authority of India.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu in his address stressed on the importance of road safety and appreciated the effort of NHAI in conducting this eye checkup camp.
He also desired to hold such camp on regular basis including general body checkup especially sugar & blood pressure for drivers.
He also laid stressed on the need to aware the drivers regarding Ayushman Bharat Scheme and holding similar camps at Toll Plaza like location for registration of the drivers of UT of J&K for issuance of their Health Cards. So that these drivers can avail free of cost indoor patient services upto Rs. 5.00 Lakh anywhere in the country in the empaneled hospitals.
Regional Officer NHAI in his welcome address stated that Central and State Govt have been celebrating road safety week every year. However, to sensitize all the stake holders on safer road mobility this Year MORTH Govt of India has decided to celebrate road safety month with the theme Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha.
NHAI has always accorded top priority to safety in the project execution. Road safety audit is embedded in the design, construction and post construction stage of every project. NHAI actively participates in the road safety activities during the annual road safety week every year. This year also NHAI is actively carrying out the road safety activities in the entire country and in J&K we are organizing Eye Checkup Camps and Road Safety workshopsatBan Toll Plaza, Gulshan Ground, Jammu, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu Ring Road, Mansar Morh/Chichi Mata Temple, Samba, Lakhanpur Toll Plaza, & Chenani Nashri.
Project Director, NHAI, PIU-Jammu Ajay Kumar Rajak briefed the gathering regarding the facts and figures of high number of unfortunate fatalities in the road accidents. He reiterated the need to follow the traffic rules and importance of immediate identification and rectification of temporary as well as permanent black spots.
