Sumbh Goaran road in shambles, work going on snail’s pace

Early Times Report

SAMBA, Feb 7: There is no end to the woes of residents of Sumbh and Goaran as 14 kilometre long road from Samba to Goaran is in shambles and people are facing worst problems in reaching their destinations.
Though work on widening of the road and construction of bridges over some nullahs were taken up in hand over the years back but same has not been completed till date which has compounded the problems of local residents.
With road in worst condition people also face transport problems as matadors have refused to ply on this dingy road.
The scool and college going students and pilgrims visiting the shrine of Baba Goaran from different parts of Jammu region are worst sufferers as they have to cover this huge distance by foot. The people despite staging many protests against the concerned agencies have failed to get their attention and resume the work on road which has been abandoned since.
"We took many delegations to Chief Engineer R&B and Deputy Commissioner Samba but they did not bother to look into the problem'', Beli Ram a resident of Sumbh.
He said the Government had earlier assured that road will be constructed within a year but despite lapse of many years it is still in complete with the result people face problems.
He said the work has been abandoned due to shortage of funds by the Department and the matadors and buses are not plying on the road due to its worst condition.
As the educational institutions have been opened the students in the area are perturbed totally as due to non construction of road they face transportation problems.
Even thousands of pilgrims visiting shrine of Goaran Baba from J& K and other neighbouring States of Punjab, HP and Haryana are facing hardships and the number of pilgrims has also been reduced to a great extent.
