PM Walks Extra Mile
2/9/2021 11:47:06 PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in Rajya Sabha after he delivered probably his last speech in the upper house surprised many people.
Azad’s tenure as the member of Rajya Sabha is set to end in coming days. The Prime Minister went an extra mile by acknowledging the contribution of the veteran Congress leader, but he was quick to add that his leadership should not take his praise otherwise. “I am optimistic that your leadership will take praise in real spirit”, the Prime Minister said.
Azad and other senior leaders of the Congress Party were sidelined last year after they wrote a letter to the party high command demanding that party structure should be revamped and a new AICC chief needs to be elected.
It appears that the career of Azad as a politician is almost over as after he completes his term in Rajya Sabha he won’t be left with anything to do. He has already been stripped of the post that he held in his party.
It’s not only Azad most of the senior Congress leaders are struggling to survive to keep them relevant in the present scenario. The grand old party of the country is at the crossroads as back to back defeats in 2014 and 2019 general elections have put the question mark on the future of the Congress Party.
The party which ruled the country for so many years being in doldrums has raised many questions. Senior leaders of the party since 2014 have raised the banner of revolt on many occasions. Most of them were of the opinion that Gandhi family should handover the baton to capable leaders rather than working hard to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India.
Speculations were rife that most leaders wanted Priyanka Gandhi Vadera to head the party. But the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi is keen to see her son remain the “undisputed king.”
Pushing leaders like Azad to the wall has added to the confusion in the Congress Party. In fact it has made the party weaker. If the Congress leadership keeps on ignoring the seniors the day is not far when they will be compelled to change their turf and shift their loyalties as no one can stand humiliation for long. The Congress needs to give respect to its senior leaders and learn from Prime Minister Modi about how to even praise the opponents.
