CHENANI, Feb 19: Govt. Degree College, Chenani in collaboration with the Society of Life Sciences, Satna, Madhya Pradesh inaugurated the Two Day National Webinar in blended mode on 19.02.2021. The theme of the webinar was "Water management, Livelihood security and Sustainable development". The two day event is sponsored by the JK Science Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, J&K Govt. The main objective behind organising this event is to generate environment awareness among the students and local community about advantages and opportunities of water resources in and around the area and how it can contribute in the development of green economy since there is dire need to ensure this vital resource will continue to be suitable for generations to come. The two resource persons Dr Rajesh Saxena, Senior Principal Scientist and Head, Centre for Excellence in Biotechnology (CEBT), MP Council of Science & Technology, DST, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh and Dr Prahlad Dube, Professor and Former Coordinator, Departments of Zoology and Life Science, University of Kota, Rajasthan highlighted the importance of water in sustaining and supporting the existence of life on planet Earth. They reasoned that water is elixir molecule of life and is the backbone for agricultural and rural economy. They emphasised we must preserve this precious natural resource at any cost. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College in addition to formal inauguration of the session added that water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio economic development, healthy ecosystem and for human survival. It is finite and irreplaceable resource and is fundamental to human beings.
