BDO-BDC chairperson at loggerheads over suspension of Senior Assistant

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Feb 19: Suspension of a Senior Assistant of Rural Development Department (RDD) has become a bone of contention for a Block Development Officer (BDO) and chairperson of Block Development Council (BDC).
Sources informed that suspension of the Senior Assistant, who was handling Block Parli Dhar and Block Kulwanta of Ramnagar tehsil in district Udhampur, remained at his home tehsil for about 25-30 years in his entire service career through the mode of attachments.
“Actually the Senior Assistant was posted at Pancheri but handled two Blocks in tehsil Ramnagar through attachment and his suspension has hit those who secured benefits from him. They are now demanding transfer of the BDO as they feel there is role of BDO behind his suspension,” said sources.
Sources further informed that BDO Parli Dhar, Alka Mishra is an honest officer and probably only one BDO who daily visits Parli Dhar otherwise earlier all her predecessors used to remain stationed in Ramnagar and handled the block from there only.
When contacted Neelam Devi, BDC Chairman of Parli Dhar said they lodged a complaint against the BDO two week ago but no action was taken till date for her misbehaviour with PRIs as well as creating hurdles in the works of BDC.
She demanded transfer or attachment of the BDO to another Block otherwise an agitation against her will be launched.
However, BDO Alka Mishra rejected the allegations as baseless and claimed that the BDC chairperson forced some Panchs and Sarpanchs to sign a letter against her for which she is ready to provide all evidence.
The BDO also said that the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Piyush Singla and ADDC Udhampur, Ashok Kumar should probe the case and take action against the guilty.
Sources informed that the BDO had relieved the Senior Assistant on the direction of seniors as he was at the same place of posting since long but the concerned authority again posted him back at the same place.
“This followed a probe by the DC after which the Senior Assistant was suspended. Following his suspension he transferred the charge of Block Parli Dhar but continued to look after the charge of Block Kulwanta which means there is clear violation of the DC order,” said sources.
They further informed that the Senior Assistant was hand in glove with certain elements, who approached the BDC chairperson and she in turn is using her political influence to persecute the BDO.
ADDC Udhampur, Ashok Kumar when contacted said that he will probe the case and act against the guilty.
