Jammu on alert as terrorists eye to establish sleeper cells
2/28/2021 11:19:51 PM

Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 28: The winter capital of Jammu has been put on alert following arrest of at least three persons within a fortnight and credible inputs that Pakistan backed terrorists want to establish "sleeper cells" here.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police have credible inputs that Pakistani terror groups including Jaish, eye to establish terror base here "as an expansion of their network."
Sources said the shocking revelations, which have alarmed the security agencies, came to fore after the arrest of at least three terrorists from Jammu in less than a fortnight.
On February 14, Suhail Bashir Shah, a resident of Newa village of Pulwama, who was pursuing nursing course in a college in Chandigarh, was caught with some seven KGs of explosives.
Police said he was assigned the task to plant the IED in Jammu by his Pakistan-based handler affiliated with Al-Badr terror outfit. He was caught moving in suspicious manner along with a bag leading to the recovery of the IED.
Prior to this, on February 6 Lashkar-e-Mustafa chief Hidyatullah Malik was caught by police from Jammu city in broad daylight.
In another recent incident, on February 17, a person from Poonch accused of terror links was caught from Jammu airport.
Sources said the intelligence inputs suggest that terrorists eye to establish "terror cells" here in a bid to carry to terror strikes in the City of Temples, which is known for its nationalist sentiment.
Sources said the Raj Bhawan recently called a security review meeting that was attended by top brass from the JKP, apart from officers from the Indian Army and the central reserve police forces.
Sources said following the inputs the Raj Bhawan has briefed Union Home Ministry about the developments.
It was reliably learnt that the Home Ministry has directed the JKP and other agencies to beef up the security and intelligence grid.
Sources said more and more intelligence operatives would be deployed in the city here whereas electronic surveillance has also been braced up.
Sources in the establishment said the police look ahead to deploy more cops in civvies in particular in "suspect areas to keep an eye on the movement."
A senior official said the security forces were on alert to foil any such nefarious designs of the enemy country and its stooges.
