Director Local Bodies asks Safai Karamcharis to end strike, resume duties

UDHAMPUR, Mar 14: Taking a strict note of the ongoing strike of Safai Karamcharis in different districts of Jammu division, Director Local Bodies Jammu has ordered the Safai Karamcharis to resume their duties failing which strict action will be taken against them.
The Director in his order also called strike of regular Safai Karamcharis as illegal. Meanwhile, due to the strike of Safai Karamcharis which started on 1st of this month entire Udhampur town has turned into a big heap of garbage and the same situation is witnessed in the other districts of Jammu region urban and local bodies except the Municipal Corporation.
The stink emanating from the garbage heaps from the urban local bodies from Lakhanpur to Banihal is making life very tough. The Director in his order stated that demands of protesting Safai Karamcharis have been examined and resolution of the demands has been send to the government for appropriate action.
He also stated that it has also come to his notice that regular Safai Karmacharies who are on strike are not allowing sanitization activities in their respective Municipal Committees.
He directed the CEOs/EOs of Municipalities to convey this information to Safai Karamcharis.
When contacted President of Saffai Karmacharies Lucky said such notices were issued many times to pressurize the protesters but they will continue the strike.
It is pertinent to mention here that Safai Karamcharis of the urban local bodies except municipal corporation are on Kaam Choddo protest for the last 14 days demanding regularization, holidays day’s salary, minimum wages act as per UT rules and others demands.
